Synopsis
The film is unfinished and contains only fragments of the story. These are:
The Roses are in their last stronghold while war rages all around them. One of the lieutenants discusses the dire situation with the general, while other soldiers nervously debate their fate. The general and lieutenants are joined by one of the twin sergeants. A shell explodes particularly close to the encampment, and the lieutenant and sergeant go to the edge of the fort to investigate. The sergeant returns to his brother with the bad news.
One nervous soldier decides enough is enough. He approaches the twin sergeants and suggests that they desert. The sergeants take this idea very poorly, and the soldier is shoved.
The watch guard shouts that a scout is returning, and everybody gathers round to hear what he has to say. He is injured and his wrapper is torn. He reports that the situation outside is desperate.
Meanwhile, on the far side of the valley, the opposing general is rallying his troops for the final onslaught...
