The King And I is a short one-man tragic drama, filmed on HDV. Written by Andy Gale and directed by David Abbott.
Introduction
The King And I is a fifteen-minute drama that forms part of the Work Rest Play trilogy. As such, it can be seen as a direct sequel to The Grind. Like that film, film features a single, deliberately isolated, character; but the shoot for this film was considerably more complex than its predecessor, on location in Weston-super-Mare, Gloucester and Bristol.

Synopsis
Jim Castle was once heralded as the next big thing in the world of chess - but years later, he's stuck in a dead-end job and lives for only two things: a chess game he participates in by post; and his weekend trip to the seaside.
Although Jim doesn't interact much with other people on the seafront, tending to keep away from the crowds, we eventually discover why these daytrips are so important to him.
